Anya Bower

Mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner & Doula

Hello there!

I am Anya Blower and have recently moved from England, to Stuttgart. I moved here with my husband, three children, dogs and horses. Quite a team!

After becoming a mother I felt very strongly that I wanted to support women in areas of maternity and postnatal care, so I left my position as a Junior School Teacher and completed my Doula training with the wonderful Kicki Hansard.

Women should, I believe, have all the information available to them to make informed choices in this new era of their life. This huge transition into motherhood, which is often overlooked in society, should be respected and supported readily!

There were many loopholes in the support and information I had received in my journey into motherhood, which left me at times, frustrated. Sadly in one instance it ensured my breastfeeding journey was cut short. I knew I did not want other women to feel uninformed and stressed and with breastfeeding even though it is a natural process, I wanted women to feel there is support available with this new skill.

I was lucky enough to train with Anna le Grange, an experienced lactation consultant in the UK, in her Mindful Breastfeeding School and qualify as a Mindful Breastfeeding School Practitioner. This fabulous concept links the body and mind, using mindfulness to release feel good hormones and support build milk production. It provides an understanding that our brains play a vital role in the physical milk making aspect and how we connect with our baby. Also using tools such as affirmations and journaling to create a calm, happy, mother and baby connected in their feeding relationship.

I enjoy running Antenatal Mindful Breastfeeding classes, New Parent Mindful Breastfeeding support courses or just visiting women for One to One sessions to support and troubleshoot where needed. Although Mindful Breastfeeding is where my focus really lies today, I am also more than happy to support women postnatally, in my Doula capacity, in those very early days as a new parent.

‘When women support each other, incredible things happen.’
